History
The Croatian Centre for Children's Books was founded in 1993 as a part of Zagreb City Libraries to promote Croatian children's books both nationally and internationally. In 1995, the Centre became the Croatian Section of IBBY.
The Centre established the Special Collection of Children's Books. The collection consists of books for children and young adults, written by Croatian writers and published by Croatian publishers, translations of Croatian authors in other languages, Croatian editions of classic literature for children. This Collection is continuously digitized as part of the Digitized Zagreb Heritage project.
The Centre nominates Croatian authors for international awards, including the Andersen Award, ALMA and IBBY Honour List. It also organizes the selection of Croatian artists for the Biennial of Illustrations Bratislava, and organizes appearance of Croatia at the Children's Book Fair in Bologna.
The Centre organizes a National Quiz for Reading Promotion in which all the children's libraries in Croatia participate. The Centre also organizes the Children's Jury of the Grigor Vitez Awards, the largest and oldest Croatian awards for children's literature.
The Centre runs the Croatian Illustrators Presentation Programme, and constantly collaborates with institutions, authors, publishers and libraries to promote Croatian children's books at home and abroad.
