IBBY-Yamada 2023: Nepal
My Environment, a clean Environment
Nepal has not been immune to the adverse effects on plastic consumption on the environment . My Environment, a clean Environment aims to raise awareness on this issue through the use of books and stories.
The project was led by a committee formed by five NESCHIL (IBBY Nepal) members. In a first step, a participative process involving writers and illustrators led to the publication of a book 'Haisancho' (Contentments), containing 15 stories on the use and satisfaction gained from correct plastic waste management. The stories and illustrations were compiled in a period of a month following a preparation workshop meant to pass information and knowledge on plastic recycling.
The book was later distributed to 21 schools in 7 different provinces, and served as a basis for discussion with the children, workshops and writing competitions on the theme tackled in the project. The book remains as a long-term tool to raise awareness about the harmful effects of plastic on the environment among school children.
Keywords: Environment, plastic waste management; Target audience: school children, teachers
