Hans Christian Andersen Award - Anhui Children's Publishing House
In 2011, the Anhui Publishing House in China wanted to introduce IBBY and, in particular, the works of the Hans Christian Andersen Award winners to Chinese children and families. They approached IBBY and presented a long-term publishing project that would do just that.
Since 2013, the Anhui Publishing House has translated and published nearly 50 books by Andersen Award winners, as well as 14 by nominees. To date three series have been published and these are shown below. Two non-fiction books have also been published: about IBBY and the autobiography of IBBY’s founder Jella Lepman. The project has been endorsed by IBBY and is supported by IBBY China.
IBBY President Wally De Doncker, wrote in 2015: The connection to world literature for young people is another feature of this outstanding project and helps the children of China appreciate stories and life outside their home. At the same time the stories are universal and can show them how they can grow and become better people through reading.
