IBBY-Yamada 2010: Nepal
Books where there are no books – creation of reading materials
Organized a project that addressed the needs of children from some of the very marginalized ethnic groups in Nepal today, namely the Tamangs, Tharus and Magar people. The project developed hand-made reading materials and showed how to combine them with storytelling and drawing activities. Teachers were trained in how to make these materials and how to use them in the classroom and reading groups. Three workshops in three districts of the Kathmandu Valley were selected for the workshops and local schools in neighbouring areas were also be invited to attend.
