“Promoting peace through books and reading”
Many madaris do not have libraries or reading books for pleasure. To introduce these students to reading for pleasure and to introduce them to other countries and cultures, a set of storybooks including travel books was donated to four madaris. A total of 890 children from the four schools were involved, both boys and girls and from two major sects. Teachers were provided with basic training on how to maintain the books and records. A follow-up training took place a few months later; furthermore a training manual was developed to help the madaris keep this initiative going. These madaris have continued to offer an active reading programme.
