IBBY Argentina: Workshop with storybook selection – Los Favoritos de los Lectores
In 2019, ALIJA conducted a programme called Los Favoritos de los Lectores to permit children in remote schools have access to books and to discover their favourite books. The idea was to listen to “the voice of the reader” rather than professionals, scholars or specialists. The projects involved 25 schools and the books were provided by the publishers (up to 4 titles per grade/ category). IBBY Argentina/ALIJA volunteers selected the schools and the relevant books. The pilot project involved between 750 and 1,000 students and 50 teachers. The organizers quickly realised that they needed to provide training for the teachers in order to make the most of the project. The IBBY-Yamada funding was also used for author visits and for trainers at the schools.
