IBBY-Yamada 2022: Lebanon
Bibliotherapy and anxiety in children - online training of professionals in bibliotherapy techniques
IBBY Lebanon together with Nafsaiyoun, an educational centre where teachers, psychologists and social workers are trained to work with children with special needs, held five daily workshops of four hours on Zoom to train 1000 participants in bibliotherapy. The participants included teachers, special educators, librarians, principals, child psychologists, social workers, therapists and parents. Bibliotherapy uses books, as well as puppets, theatre, songs and poems, to alleviate depression, phobia or social anguish in children. In the case of Lebanon, it will also be used to work with children suffering from anxiety and fear since the economic crisis of 2019 and the explosion of 2020.
