IBBY-Yamada 2023: Mongolia
Building a network and increasing the capacity of children’s reading promoters in Mongolia
In 2022, in partnership with the Children’s Central Library of Mongolia, IBBY Mongolia conducted a survey among librarians, children and parents to evaluate the situation of children’s reading. The survey findings presented the necessity to support public libraries, but also pointed out the existence of parents and youth proactively acting as children’s readers and promoters.
The objective of the action undertaken in 2023 aimed at supporting their action by providing them training, practice and by connecting them in a network able to operate in broader communities with the support of local libraries. A total of 20 young people and mothers received capacity-building trainings from children’s librarians and members of IBBY Mongolia. A manual on how to facilitation of children’s reading sessions and how to use books for the development of children was also developed.
