Lockdown has been a challenge for all of us, but also an interesting time. At Al Salwa Publishers we chose to engage our young readers with two activities. In the first activity, we asked them to imagine the coronavirus as a monster and to write and illustrate a story about how to overcome it. The response was great and many children participated. It was a way for the children to face their fears in a creative way. We shared their stories on our social media platforms and engaged many people in our discussions.

Our next project was encouraging the children to read for pleasure so we started a competition on who could read the most books in one month. The books could be paper books or ebooks and they could be on any subject and by any publishing house and in any language. The response was very encouraging and people shared their list of books and pictures of their kids reading. At the end of the month we chose a list of the 10 children who participated and read the most. Their prize was a choice of 3 books by Al Salwa Publishing House.

We also engaged our writers and asked them to send us their funny memoirs of how they were spending the time with their families and readers in lockdown, 
and took part in online discussions, seminars and storytelling.
